Lead Engineer - Systems Engineering

We are looking for a Lead Engineer - Systems Engineering who will lead a team of design engineers for the design, validation and homologation of battery packs and modules, according to our New Product Development and Introduction process.
FREYR Battery is on a mission to decarbonize energy and transportation systems globally by producing the world’s most sustainable battery cells. Over 50% of all carbon mitigation is dependent on batteries. The industry is experiencing exponential growth.
FREYR is well set to succeed in this extremely exciting sector. We opened our first commercial-scale battery cell factory in Mo i Rana, Norway at the end of March. We will use this plant to prove both 24M’s semi-solid technology and our various products. This technology represents a breakthrough in the industry providing new Unique Selling Points, and much-reduced cost, CO2 footprint, capex, and factory size.
We will then build gigafactories based on 24M’s technology in Mo i Rana and in Georgia USA before expanding our technology base with other partners. We have concrete plans for building an enormous 200GWh capacity, which collectively can be expected to provide an annual turnover of more than $15 billion.

The position reports to the Head of BMS & Systems Engineering and is based in Lysaker, Boston or Luxembourg.
For the right candidate, we can also construct hybrid solutions within the area of Europe/North America.
Main tasks include
- Own the system design and lead the technical risk assessment and mitigation activities, including requirements reviews, DFMEA, simulation and testing.
- Screen the competitors and supplier community for benchmarking and innovative ESS technology.
- Work closely with Engineering service providers, Component suppliers and Line Integrators to optimize Design for Manufacturing.
- Work closely with Cell and Application Engineering and Sales teams to ensure customer requirements are met.
- Work closely in a cross-functional team with members from Process, Quality, Supply Chain and Operations Departments to support flawless production launch according to Business targets.
Qualifications – Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with the development, production or application of Battery Systems.
- Direct or indirect experience with design for manufacturing in a mass production scale.
- Experience with requirement engineering, documentation management and product certification.
We value good and clear communication, and since we are from several different nationalities, you must have good English skills, both written and oral.
If you are experienced working in an international company on new product introductions within quality focus systems combined with a good understanding of the fundamentals of a lithium-ion battery it’s a huge advantage, but not a clear must.
