We are looking for a Head of Cell Engineering to recruit and build a team of cell technologists to drive the development of the many battery cells we will design and produce.

FREYR Battery is on a mission to decarbonize energy and transportation systems globally by producing the world’s most sustainable battery cells. Over 50% of all carbon mitigation is dependent on batteries. The industry is experiencing exponential growth.

FREYR is well set to succeed in this extremely exciting sector. We opened our first commercial-scale battery cell factory in Mo i Rana, Norway at the end of March. We will use this plant to prove both 24M’s semi-solid technology and our various products. This technology represents a breakthrough in the industry providing new Unique Selling Points, and much-reduced cost, CO2 footprint, capex, and factory size.

We will then build gigafactories based on 24M’s technology in Mo i Rana and in Georgia USA before expanding our technology base with other partners. We have concrete plans for building an enormous 200GWh capacity, which collectively can be expected to provide an annual turnover of more than $15 billion.

In the role of Head of Cell Engineering, you will be responsible for recruiting, building, and managing a team of battery cell technologists.

This position reports to Director Product Design & Engineering, and is to be based in either Oslo or Boston.

Main tasks include

• Leading technical risk assessment and mitigation activities (DFMEA)
• Coordinating the development work packages of FREYR’s technology partners and in-house R&D
• Technology lead role in FREYR’s New Product Development Introduction process for next-generation ESS cells
• Co-ordinating root cause analysis processes
• Responsible for product technology and change documentation

Qualifications – Required

• Minimum Bachelor degree in electrochemistry, alternatively mechanical, material science or electrical engineering
• Minimum 3 years experience with turning lithium-ion cell designs into manufactured products
• Minimum 1 year of experience leading individuals, teams or projects
• Fluent English

Qualifications - Advantageous

• MSc or PhD in electrochemistry, alternatively mechanical, material science or electrical engineering
• Multiple years of experience from the process of turning customer specifications into manufactured industrial products that meet high-quality standards
• Experience of working in an international company
• Experience in establishing and working with quality systems for new product introduction
• Experience with PLM
